Wine Tasting- Barefoot Fruitscato Green Apple

Name: Barefoot Fruitscato Green Apple

Variety of Grapes: Moscato- Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains

Country of Origin: United States

Region of Origin: California

Vintage Year: Nonvintage

Price: $7

Wine Critic Review: "Straw green color. Aromas of green apple candy and pineapple yogurt with a supple, crisp, spritzy, sweet light body and a polished, brisk finish with no oak flavor. A fun and easy apple-flavored moscato." (https://www.tastings.com/Wine-Review/Barefoot-Fruitscato-NV-Apple-California-USA-09-18-2022.aspx)

References: From Wine Folly, page 138, Muscat Blanc has notes of orange blossom, meyer lemon, mandarin orange, ripe pear and honeysuckle. Generally, I could taste the lemon and I think a little honeysuckle from the sweetness. It's a sweet wine with a light body. Even with the green apple flavoring which normally is a little sour it was still sweet and light.

My review: This is a nice sweet wine to drink. The green apple flavor pair surprisingly well with the wine, I had been expecting a clash in the grape and green apple flavors. Overall a mild and sweet flavor from the green apple made it very enjoyable to drink.

Wine Tasting- Barefoot Fruitscato Strawberry

Name: Barefoot Fruitscato Strawberry

Variety of Grapes: Moscato- Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains

Country of Origin: United States

Region of Origin: California

Vintage Year: Nonvintage

Price: $7

Wine Critic Review: "Light siam color. Aromas of warm strawberry preserves and grape jelly with a silky, petillant, medium body and a medium strawberry shortcake with lemon curd and strawberry phosphate finish. A bold strawberry bomb of a moscato for fans of dessert in a glass." (https://www.tastings.com/Wine-Review/Barefoot-Fruitscato-NV-Strawberry-California-USA-02-18-2023.aspx)

References: From Wine Folly, page 138, Muscat Blanc has notes of orange blossom, meyer lemon, mandarin orange, ripe pear and honeysuckle. I was able to taste the citrusy flavors but not the floral notes. It's a sweet wine with a light body, which I could definitely taste.

My review: I really liked this wine. It's light and sweet which makes it fun to drink. There's not a particularly strong strawberry flavor, it's more just generally sweet. Overall I enjoyed it!

My Background

Welcome to my wine blog! I'm currently taking a class in college called Geography of Wine, and this is one of my assignments. I don't have a particularly strong background in wine. I don't drink a lot of wine and I haven't really tried a lot of wine. The only kind of wine I can really say I like is Moscato. It's fruity wine and I enjoy the lightness. I've tried wine with my parents before when they drink it, but they prefer a dry red wine which is not to my taste. So overall I would say I don't have a lot of experience drinking wine.

From my limited wine tasting, I've found that I tend to like sweet white wines the most. This makes sense because overall I tend to like sweet fruity drinks. I also like the lightness of white wines. To be honest I don't understand the appeal of a dry wine. I can understand not wanting a super sweet drink but I find that dry wines are not enjoyable to drink. This is something I am hoping to change with this course.

From this course, I want to expand the wines I like. I want to try and find different wines I like and I'm hoping that trying a lot of wine will allow me to find some I like. And it will encourage me to try wines I might normally not. I also want to gain a better understanding of wine. I want to be able to understand the notes and flavors of wine better even if it's not a flavor I enjoy.

This is me:
